Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first ever airplane flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, on December 17, 1903. Just seven years after their historic event, Wilbur Wright visited several southern cities to find a place to start a temporary flying school. After visiting several places in Georgia and Florida, Wilbur Wright traveled to Montgomery, Alabama, where he opened one of the world's first flying schools at the place that would later become Maxwell Air Force Base. The first recorded night flights in history occurred there on May 25, 1910.

After learning about the Wright brothers, the third and fourth graders spend the rest of class making replica Wright flyers out of graham crackers, marshmallows, pretzel sticks and frosting.

Held weekly during the school year at Coosada Baptist Church, Academy Days Co-op offers preschool through high school classes in subjects difficult to teach at home or best taught in group settings. Visit www.AcademyDays.com for more information about the co-op.
